There's been a lot of talk about MTV's new show Jersey Shore set to debut on December 3rd as being offensive to both Jersey-ites and Italian-Americans. As if we in the Garden State don't catch enough flak already, thank you MTV for another batch of pseudo-entertainment. I honestly don't worry about people trashing my home state anymore because I've been around the country to know there's people from Jersey everywhere. I'll probably wind up watching this piece of garbage too, and I bet half of the people are really from Philly like they were in MTV's recent True Life: Jersey Shore. Does anyone else notice the startling similarities between the casts of this show and VH1's Tool Academy 2? I know I'm splitting hairs but that show was hilarious.
Check out my good friends in Racing Kites and the amazing new electronic press kit they just put together. These guys are really as honest, hardworking and humble as they are in this video. They also have a new EP Right Here, Right Now available on iTunes.
Thank you to all of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who sacrifice more than I can imagine every single day to defend our way of life.
Some notes from the weekend:
The Jersey weather, with the exception of today, did not celebrate anything at all!
I saw Bruce Springsteen on Thursday night at Izon Center and it was absolutely amazing. I've always heard the Boss
puts on a great show but I was floored. The man and his band played for three hours and twenty minutes without taking a note off. Being from NJ, this was truly a religious and deeply spiritual experience: 8% sarcasm. I met Bruce once when he came into my friends' bands' dressing room a few years back at the Starland Ballroom. Really swell guy.Hung with my buds Sal, Megan and my lovely girlfriend in Oceanport on Friday. We drank Seangria and watched Dane Cook, an absolutely great night. Spent most of Saturday just hangin' around the house and trying to realign my back, long story. I realized that Jon and Kate Plus 8 is the worst thing I have ever experienced after being forced to watch two hours of it Saturday afternoon. The fact that two people who utterly and obviously dispise each other have a television show seen by millions that in-essence whore out their children for their own financial benefit is disgusting. Reality television (sans game shows/competitions) is clearly for people who don't have enough steam to make their own lives interesting.
The NBA Playoffs' conference semi-finals have both been great to watch. Denver is a team that really intrigues me and is fun to watch when they don't take nights off. That IS a shot at JR Smith.
Gina and I saw Terminator: Salvation earlier tonight. The storyline was very inconsistent but I thought Christian Bale really personified John Connor. Insane action for the first 75%, but everything fell apart for the ending! Prequels are such a pain to follow.
It's 4:37 a.m. and I have a lot to cover tomorrow while hopefully squeezing some music into the day. Hopefully good creative news on the horizon!
I just came across these pictures I took at Sandy Hook State Park in New Jersey last fall. One of my favorite places just to get away, even if it's not actually that far away.
This is my jam and I'm bringing it back.
So while surfing around YouTube this afternoon I found a bunch of videos labeled "Hangin' Out On E Street". While Bruce Springsteen's impact on musicians from 20 years ago through today runs deep, you can see and hear first-hand accounts and performances from the Bouncing Souls, Brian Fallon from the Gaslight Anthem, Tom Gabel from Against Me!, Ted Leo, Wyclef Jean and more. Enjoy!
There's a really great story about New Jersey from Travel & Leisure called Unexpected New Jersey that's definitely
worth checking out if you're going on vacation or looking for adventure in the Garden State. There's also a section for you to check out things to do down the shore year-round.Current mood: It's a rainy and humid night in Miami Beach. For some reason, this quiet night reminds me of this
feeling I used to call my own over the summer. I was living in a little beach down on the Jersey shore with a whole lotta' soul. I'd ride my bike up and down those boardwalks and have this hybrid emotion of home, melancholy, wonder and well...soul all cruising leisurely through my veins. That's right, current mood: Darkness on the Edge of Town.
