Who is the most famous person you've ever met?
My friend and Hudson bandmate Mike and I spent a day at Starland Ballroom hanging with our friends in At A Glance a few years back. We were all sitting around in the dressing room after their set awaiting Streetlight Manifesto to take the stage when the Boss walked in. It was surreal. He walked up to me and I stood up and said "Hi, I'm Sean", he shook my hand and said "Hey, I'm Bruce". I thought in my head; "fuck YEAH you are, just let me look at you!!!". He was sweet and it was cool that he took a few minutes to come in and just say hello, he didn't have to do that. None of us even knew he was at the show. I've heard from many people I've told the story to that Bruce, despite being one of the most famous and successful American musicians of the last thirty years, still buys tickets like everyone else and will just hang out in the crowd at a concert. I'll never forget meeting Bruce Springsteen, my only regret is that I wasn't nearly as big a fan of his then than I am now. I like to think that meeting him played a part in me becoming a huge fan of his. I saw Bruce and the E Street Band this past Wednesday and I'll be back at Giants Stadium this coming Thursday.
What is your favorite John Hughes movie? Bonus points: Share your favorite quote from that movie.
While Ferris Bueller's Day Off broke my John Hughes cherry, it was Sixteen Candles that really turned me onto to
a genre I now refer to as "80's movies". Sixteen Candles was smart, and funny in a struggling kind of way. I think accepting shortcomings is a great flavor of comedy, and Molly Ringwold was perfect at it in both Sixteen and The Breakfast Club.
Favorite quote has to go to Sam's grandparents a few minutes into the movie.
"Fred, she's gotten her boobies"
"...I better get my magnifying glass"
The gong everytime someone would say "Long Duk Dong" was borderline racist and perfectly hilarious.
Sixteen Candles also inspired a cell phone video trailer featuring me, shot by my friend Sal on my Razr phone 3+ years ago. Rest In Peace John Hughes.
If you were going to enter a competitive eating contest, what food would you choose to speed eat?
But of course, the White Castle cheeseburger.
With four grams of saturated fat (20% DV), my victory would be short-lived due to a massive coronary.
What is your deepest, darkest fear?
Being eaten alive by a shark or being dragged into deep water and being eaten by a crocodile.
Fear's a funny thing.
"I read a thing that actually speaking in front of a crowd is considered the number one fear of the average person. Number two was death...number two! That means to the average person if you had to be at a funeral, you would rather be in the casket than doing the eulogy". - Jerry Seinfeld
What have you tried in life that you just weren't very good at?
Ice skating. Oh my God, I can't think of many things I'm worse at than ice skating. The last time I tried I was a sophomore in high school and I failed miserably. See I grew up skateboarding, I skated absolutely everywhere, I was used to that motion. So when put on ice, no matter how hard I tried I couldn't ever shake that innate movement of kicking with one leg while balancing with the other. If it wasn't for my friend Hudgy, I'd of skated a circle around the BHS ice rink until summer time.
Do you have a particular "catch phrase" for which you are known?
Submitted by Emu with a Clue.Probably any antiquated surf lingo such as rad, stoked, stellar. I caught tons of flack my entire life for slipping these words into conversations before half of my friends wound up saying them too. Fuckers.
If you had one month to live, what would you do?
Suggested by Acerebel.I would pack my things and drive across the United States to California seeing absolutely every single thing in this country I've ever wanted to see. I would do this with Dan, Alissa, Sal and Sarah - I only have a sedan. This would take at least 13 days. There'd be time spent munching on Chicago-style hot dogs riding the El, night rides on cliffs through South Dakota's black hills, drinking cups of coffee in Denver, Colorado, days weaving through the desert taking pictures of rock formations and of us in the middle of roads with not another soul in sight, writing stories detailing Mt. Rainer outside of Seattle before driving down the Pacific Coast Highway down to San Diego, California.
I would then fly to Hawaii and surf Waimea Bay. I would do this for two days and if I didn't kill myself crashing on the coral reef, I would fly my friends and I to Australia where we would feed wild dolphins and have koala bears give us the middle finger for at least three days.
I have eleven days left.
After a day spent roaming the great wall of China my friends and I would then fly to the southwestern tip of African where we would scuba dive through shipwrecks. We'd spend that night eating freshly-caught seafood before going on a safari the next day to see cheetahs, elephants, zebras and wild hippos. With 8 days left, we'd spend an entire day in Cape Town, South Africa. I will not leave this Earth before I stand on a cliff in Cape Town with the Atlantic Ocean on my right and the Indian Ocean on my left. After a day of gondolas and taking a picture holding up the Leaning Tower of Pisa we'd be off to America.
My last week alive.
We'd land on Daytona 500 morning at where other than, Daytona Beach, Florida. After taking in a full day at the birthplace of speed we'd spend that night drinking mint julips sitting under willow trees in Savannah, Georgia. After cruising through Charleston, South Carolina and the Outer Banks, we'd spend day #26 in Washington, D.C. taking in musuems, seeing lawmakers and eating chili in the Nation's Capital.
95 North to New Jersey - My Last Ninety-Six Hours on Earth.
My fourth-to-last day on Earth would be spent in Princeton, New Jersey browsing the PRX, walking through Princeton University and eating ice cream at that shoppe with the picture of Einstein on the wall. A drive up Route 1 to Woodbridge would result in a dinner of chicken enchiladas and Sols at Jose Tejas, my favorite restaurant in the world. That night would be spent meandering the streets of New York City before getting a room at the W in Times Square. After a good night's sleep we'd sleep in and grab lunch at Katz's Deli on the Lower East Side. I would have a pastrami sandwich on rye with mustard, steak french fries and about six chocolate egg creams. I'd burn it off with a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. I'd spend that night with my mom, family and friends in Bayonne. I'd spend that next day and night in the town I was born that I've spent most of this life pushing myself away from but I'd hang out with everyone I was ever friends with at OJ Mac's before hanging out late night at "the Middle".
My Last Day on Earth.
I'd invite every person I've ever known to a three-part farewell party. Part I would be breakfast at the Broadway Diner in Bayonne where I would rock out at least ten cups of their delicious coffee to go along with a plate of strawberry pancakes. Part II would be a day spent on the Asbury Park beach, 4th Avenue. I'd sip on fresh-squeezed lemonades while splashing around the waves and jumping off jetties into the blue Atlantic. My final night on Earth would be a concert at the Asbury Park Convention Hall featuring John Mayer, the Ergs!, Paul McCartney, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, the Loved Ones, the Ataris, Saves the Day, Green Day, Against Me!, Jay-Z, Bruce Springsteen. The show would be headlined by the Bouncing Souls, who would play "True Believers" twice, so I can play it with them once and be in the crowd for the last live song I ever hear. That night would be spent as we ended the evening drinking Yuenglings, eating totz!, bowling and dancing at Asbury Lanes. The last song that would play as the bar closed would be Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run".
The End.
What would you name your first, or next child? (Girl or boy.)
I've always adored the names Mark and Sarah and I've always figured that's what I'd like to name my first son/daughter.
